Originally
robot meant “mechanical man” but it has since its inception come to
mean much more. Robotics now includes pretty much anything that does
what humans would otherwise do. Which means it doesn’t have to look
like a human, or a pet dog. In fact it may look just like a familiar
device even an elevator and still be fully automated. At the same time
prosthetics and human enhancements are advancing. Perhaps some day
the line between machine and sentient beings will become blurred. That
time is a long way off, in the mean time there are a lot of fun, yet
practical things to develop and explore.
Here we are trying to develop the tools that will make it easy for future generations
to think about and develop new and exciting things. |
